This site is dedicated to the ongoing research in the Team "Immunity & Gut Microbiota Ecology" lead by Dr. Martin Larsen. Peaceful co-existence of host and gut commensals is ensured by advanced mechanisms including intestinal barrier function as well as innate and adaptive host immunity. We presently study the roles played by immunoglobulins to regulate the ecological network of commensal bacteria colonizing the small and large intestine. Our hypothesis is that only a subset of gut commensals truly challenges the host resulting in host immune responses. We postulate that it is likely that some of these commensals may have pathobiont characteristics and may in particular play a triggering role in human disease. We investigate if the pathobiont characteristic of certain bacteria may be associated with aberrant host immunity and dysbiosis.

The research team is hosted by the “Centre d’immunologie et des maladies infectieuses“ (CIMI Paris, France). Read more.
